Small Work Bench

NZ$1,395.00

Small is beautiful, This classic compact bench is an improved version of the traditional small bench. The perfect solution for beginners and woodworkers who have limited or no space or those who need their work raised closer to eye level. At just over 1050mm long, 275mm wide and 200mm high it fits perfectly on a table or existing bench allowing you to vary working height easily. Fully specified with a quick-release end vice that rapidly opens to 210mm (8-1/2”) or a standard English type vice which opens to 130mm.  Equipped with 19mm ( 3/4") dogs this bench works brilliantly well for either left or right-handers.

This size bench has been about for some time but the style was recently beautifully resolved and presented in a Fine Woodworking article by Steve Latta.

As a teacher and maker, I have been fascinated by the idea of a compact bench because of the ease with which it can be moved to any teaching location and how well it suited aspiring woodworkers with limited space to get started with at home. I had the chance to work on one when teaching a group of woodworkers in Wellington who had made one and I loved it. I quickly built my own version when I got home.

While working I have found myself gravitating to my compact bench constantly as it allows me to set up work at the correct height for my eyesight and consequently facilitates accurate work. It also eases backache by reducing bending. When teaching youngsters the ability to establish the bench at a good work height and the range and simplicity work holding on the bench meant easy access to the joys of making

We hope you like it.
